ABOUT

“Something very different, worthy of the utmost attention.”

7 times Grammy Award winning Javier Limon, El Pais (Spain)

"Vivacious Sicilian chanteuse Sissy Castrogiovanni impressed an SRO audience with her mastery [..] Castrogiovanni floated effortlessly through octave-jumping scatting and vocalese forays. Her version of Chopin’s majestic Nocturne in Eb Major, demonstrated the singer’s emotional range and precise sense of pitch".

 JAZZIZ Magazine

"Jazz gets happily hitched to lyrics sung enticingly and beautifully in Sicilian dialect by the young, sensational, Sicilian-born Sissy Castrogiovanni..." WNPR

"Inspired by a cross-cultural mix of jazz, Sicilian and Mediterranean influences, African rhythms and traditional melodies, Castrogiovanni exhibits her expansive, gorgeous voice with melodic, soulful songs sung entirely in Sicilian dialect. International beauty full of charm and dynamic personality, the Sicilian diva could probably sing her songs in Esperanto and they'd still sound soulful and dramatic" Owen McNally

"The audience was thrilled by [...] smoothly rendered workouts of Mediterranean-inspired sounds led by bluesy vocalist Sissy Castrogiovanni.." DOWNBEAT Magazine

Sissy Castrogiovanni, one of the most unique and creative artists on the contemporary jazz scene, is a Sicilian jazz award-winning singer, composer, producer and Berklee College of Music professor.

With notable performances at worldly-renowned festivals such as Panama Jazz, Dominican Republic Jazz and Jazz en Lima, Sissy Castrogiovanni extensively tours Europe, United States and South America since a very young age, and has collaborated with numerous distinguished artists including legendary multi-Grammy winning singer Bobby McFerrin and Latin-Grammy winning producer Javier Limon. In addition she has excelled in performance with Jack DeJohnette, and Patrice Rushen, to name a few.

Musically rooted in her island, Sicily, her arrangements and compositions are an attractive synthesis of musical cultures. A pleasurable intricacy of her Sicilian and Mediterranean influences, earthy African rhythms and post-bop Jazz harmonies, Sissy’s music finds its niche in this vast sea of jazz and world music.

With her expressive and emotional voice that’s been praised for its rare vocal extension, vocal control,  and versatility by influential publications such as the Jazziz Magazine, WNPR and DownBeat Magazine, Castrogiovanni ’s soulful and powerful sound let us discover a new universe, where the extremely rich melodies become soundscapes that transport us immediately into a world full of life and art.

Jazz finalist of the International Songwriting Competition with the song “Africannu” - where jazz got happily hitched to lyrics sung enticingly and beautifully in Sicilian dialect - and most recently, a recipient of the ‘Live Art Boston Award 2019’ by Boston Foundation, Sissy Castrogiovanni is also an Estill Voice Training E.F.P. certified instructor (also known as Estill Voicecraft vocal technique).

Sissy Castrogiovanni’s 2020 has been packed with new music. In May she released her newest album, self-produced, "TERRA", entirely at her name as singer, composer and arranger.

In addition she recorded as lead vocalist for the album "THE TIME IS NOW', by Peruvian drummer-percussionist, Jorge Perez-Albela, which has been freshly released in July.

More releases from Castrogiovanni include the record “Intra Lu Munnu” (2013) - her first work as a solo artist - and “SungDeep”  (2014),  a 7-piece A Capella ensemble founded by leading singer Joey Blake.
