“Sissy is the voice and the image of Sicily, her songs are starting a new era for Sicilian popular music. Thanks to her, we can discover a new universe within traditional Sicilian music, extremely rich and powerful melodies and soundscapes, that transport us immediately to this island’s streets and fields full of life and art, something very different, worthy of the utmost attention.”

Sissy Castrogiovanni, one of the most unique and creative artists on the contemporary jazz scene, is an Italian award-winning singer, songwriter, producer and educator.

With notable performances at worldly-renowned festivals such as Panama Jazz, Dominican Republic Jazz and Jazz en Lima, Sissy Castrogiovanni extensively tours Europe, United States and South America since a very young age, and counts numerous collaborations with distinguished musicians including performances with Jack DeJohnette, Bobby McFerrin, Patrice Rushen, and Javier Limon to name a few.

Musically rooted in her island, Sicily, her arrangements and compositions are an attractive synthesis of musical cultures. A pleasurable intricacy of her Sicilian and Mediterranean influences, earthy African rhythms and avant-garde Jazz harmonies, Sissy’s music finds its niche in this vast sea of jazz and world music.

With a warm voice that’s been praised for its rare vocal extension, vocal control, expression and versatility by influential publications such as the Jazziz Magazine, WNPR and DownBeat Magazine, Castrogiovanni ’s soulful and powerful sound let us discover a new universe, where the extremely rich melodies become soundscapes that transport us immediately into a world full of life and art.

2014 jazz finalist of the International Songwriting Competition with the song “Africannu” - where jazz got happily hitched to lyrics sung enticingly and beautifully in Sicilian dialect - and most recently, a recipient of the ‘Live Art Boston Award 2019’ by Boston Foundation, Sissy Castrogiovanni is also an Estill Voice Training E.F.P. certified instructor (also known as Estill Voicecraft vocal technique), and Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music MA, Voice Department.

Sissy Castrogiovanni’s releases include the record “Intra Lu Munnu” (2013) - her first work as a solo artist - and “SungDeep”  (2014),  a 7-piece A Capella ensemble founded by leading singer Joey Blake.

Castrogiovanni is currently working on a double release for the upcoming year:  the album “Reconexion”, by Peruvian drummer Jorge Perez-Albela - that sees Sissy as lead vocalist - and her newest record “TERRA”,  entirely at her name,  that will be released on March 2020.
